Faster US visas: President Donald Trump unveils FIFA Pass to help 2026 World Cup travellers
On 17 November 2025, Trump announced his FIFA PASS plan in the White House. The FIFA president was also present there to support this step. This plan will help all FIFA fans obtain a smooth visa, which applies only to those who buy a ticket directly from FIFA.
President Donald Trump stated in the Oval Office announcement that “I’ve directed my administration to do everything within their power to make the 2026 World Cup an unprecedented success.” he further added that “The United States would deliver a smooth, world-class experience for the tournament.”
With this announcement, Trump also clarified that securing an earlier interview appointment will not guarantee entry. All passengers must comply with security checks and immigration rules.
The US has started the process by deploying new consular officers. These additional hirings ensure maximum application handling and provide an appointment for everyone.

Program Targets Faster U.S. Visa Processing
A proper implication of the plan is expected from the earliest months of 2026. Since the tournament will start in June-July of the same year, applicants have enough time to arrange their documents.
According to FIFA’s media release, “Led by the U.S. Department of State, the initiative gives ticket holders access to priority visa interview appointments ahead of the tournament.”
The US Department of State stated that “FIFA World Cup 2026 ticket holders travelling to the United States are now eligible for the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (FIFA PASS).”
In the first round, the counselors will accept only the visa applications for 11 U.S. host cities where matches will be played. However, three matches of the tournament are planned to be played in Mexico and 2 in Canada. But currently, the system is not focusing on these cities.
The primary purpose of introducing FIFA PASS is to shorten the visa process, which sometimes extends beyond the World Cup’s actual dates. Fans with their tickets can also get early interview appointments through online portals, but security rules are the same for all.
Agencies Prepare Rollout Amid Mixed Reactions
FIFA and other tourism organizations are appreciating this step as the maximum audience can attend the World Cup, which ultimately will prove beneficial for the state’s economy. According to experts, a successful FIFA hosting will boost the global economy $47-62 billion.
The event is also expected to create 290,000 jobs for U.S. workers. Having all the benefits, the immigration experts also projected some challenges. The fast visa process can compromise security checks, while fairness is essential to allow everyone to use the system.
Logistics providers can face hurdles when handling a larger number of applications. To avoid all such challenges, Trump encouraged fans to submit their application earlier.
