Google updates Gemini’s Deep Research mode to scan Gmail, Drive, and Chat for AI research reports
AI is now working beyond just superficial research; its deep research feature is actually an “Agentic” feature that creates a detailed and multi-layered research plan. Google is now planning to integrate this feature, using user data from Google Drive, into Gmail. It will be an excellent move to make research easier for Google Docs, Sheets, and other format workers.
This feature is now also available for chat, rather than being limited to research. It provides more in-depth, logical answers for every type of conversation and query. In one click, users can now create detailed work reports with personal or internal workplace data. Previously, users were unable to complete the entire task within Google Drive. They have to go to either Bing or Google SERP, or to any AI tool to do some research on the task.
Then they come back and write according to their research. But now they can do their research in real time without opening multiple tabs. It’s just like having a personal research assistant and, most importantly, it is unpaid.
Google search will remain the default source, but Gmail, Google Chat, and all Google Drive formats, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and PDFs, are the core new sources where accessibility has been expanded. Users can go to Gemini AI, do in-depth reasoning-based research, and then synthesize detailed reports. Now, they can export the report to Google Docs or Sheets. They can also convert it to an audio format, just like a summary.

Use Cases and Practical Applications
The feature will especially help with cross-market analysis by cross-referencing team documents, emails, and project plans. It will allow building a competitor report by effortlessly merging public web data with internal strategy memos. The tool will also be a plus in building comparison spreadsheets.
From personal file analysis to specific information, this feature ensures steady access without opening numerous files. Besides Google Drive files, it will also offer the same features in Gmail. Right now, it’s launching on a desktop web interface only.
The mobile version is expected to be released soon, but it’s not available yet. The free version is quite limited; for full features, users have to buy a subscription to Google one AI. Users can access it only after connecting their Google Workspace apps to Gemini. It will enable functionality and control over the sources used for research and queries.
Now, AI is a more powerful and deeply integrated tool. It is enhancing both productivity and work quantity. Given the current rapid growth in the AI field, it is expected that AI will deliver more lucrative results.
It’s believed that, when used in balance with human supervision, it will be an economic multiplier. However, privacy concerns always remain high. As AI evolves, the companies behind every tool and robot must design clear ethical guidelines and strict implementation.
